If you’ve been following me here at sugargrainfreebaby.com, you’ve read about all of the vitamins and minerals I’m currently supplementing at Why I pop more pills NOW than before NSNG and Did I mention I pop more pills now?. You should also be aware of my love for Pure Vitamin Club and that I’ve been kinda patiently waiting for their sublingual B-12 supplement. I’m so excited that PVC has launched the new B-12 and you can now get it!!
My husband and I participated in a special launch webinar held by Vinnie Tortorich and his PVC partner and Wednesday podcast co-host Andy Schreiber. They introduced the new product and answered many participant questions. We found out that any other sublingual B-12 products have binders and fillers made from lactose or microcrystalline cellulose (sawdust!) for the actual B-12 to be a large enough tab to use. Sublingual tablets are formulated to be placed under the tongue for absorption and the amount of B-12 dose is so tiny in size that it cannot be administered without a binder and filler. We also learned the advantage of a sublingual tablet vs. a pill or tablet you swallow. The sublingual tablet absorbs directly into the bloodstream under the tongue instead of passing through digestion, so you are getting your full dose absorbed quicker.
If you are concerned presently with your B-12 deficiency or absorption, you may already be aware of the forms of B-12 offered. The natural form of B-12 is methylcobalamin, which is more easily absorbed. The synthetic form of B-12 is cyanocobalamin, which contains a cyanide molecule! Of course PVC is using the natural form, methylcobalamin… But they’ve also chosen to use two forms of calcium as the binder and filler for the B-12:
We created our B-12 sublingual with only three ingredients: Methylcobalamin (B-12), Calcium Citrate, and Calcium Laurate, a natural lubricant that combines calcium with lauric acid, a medium-chain triglyceride found in coconut oil which is known to have anti-microbial properties.
This is the first and ONLY sublingual B-12 supplement on the market to offer all natural, cyanide free, vegan-friendly lactose free, sawdust free, and sugar and artificial sweetener free B-12 tablets! Now do you see why I’ve been so excited for them to launch?!?!
Wondering if you actually need to supplement B-12?
I found from comprehensive blood work performed years ago that I had a deficiency and needed to supplement. Often recommended to supplement B-12 or initially test for deficiency are:
- *older adults
- *children
- *vegans
- *strict vegetarians
- *people with diabetes
- *people with gastrointestinal disorders
- *people who have undergone gastric bypass or gastrointestinal surgery
- *pregnant or lactating women who follow strict vegetarian diets and their infant(s)
You may consider a B-12 test if you have any of these recurring symptoms and/or conditions:
- *tingling in the hands and feet
- *balance problems
- *racing heart
- *confusion/dementia
- *weakness
- *loss of appetite
- *pernicious anemia
- *celiac disease
- *Crohn’s disease
- *atrophic gastritis
Several medications may also affect your B-12 levels such as:
- *chloramphenicol, or Chloromycetin
- *proton pump inhibitors, such as Prilosec and Prevacid
- *H2 receptor blockers, such as Tagamet, Pepcid, and Zantac
- *metformin, for diabetics
